When I’m activating details on the player, it shows that video is transcoding, audio is direct, the reason is that E-AC-3 format is not compatible with the device.
But I don’t understand why it says the audio is not compatible while it also says that audio is direct ? In addition to that, I think I added eac3 in the XML profile ?..
Can you help me ? I spent almost the whole night trying to figure out what is the problem
OK so I’m progressing, and I have another question : why “media must be transcoded in order to use the hls protocol” ? It is transcoded only for this file, the other videos are working fine…
Because my main problem is that video is transcoding, I don’t care that audio has to be transcoded but my NAS is not powerful enough to transcode such a video track, so I have to pause my video often to let time for transcoding…
I understand that I don’t have equipment for EAC3 so basically what I want to do is to transcode EAC3 to AC3 but keeping the orginial video as it is possible to play it.
Can you help me creating such a profile ?..
To illustrate my problem, when I play my video with the French audio (AC3), the audio is not transcoded BUT the video is (because of hls), and then I have the same problem…
What I don’t understand is WHY my video plays really fine with the VLC player on my Nvidia Shield TV via network shares ?!
Subtitles plus Audio
To keep the subtitles in sync with the audio and video, it is burning the subs into the video. Your processor Intel Celeron J3355 dual-core 2.0 GHz, burst up to 2.5 GHz doesn’t have enough capability for the load even if you had Plex Pass and turned on HW transcoding. Try turning off the Subtitles.
Hi,
Thank you for your help !
But I’m not fluent enough in english to turn off subtitles when I’m playing english video
What I really don’t understand is why it is perfectly played with VLC, with video/audio/subtitles synchronized ?
So is there a way to do the same with Plex ? I think my Shield TV is powerful enough to understand the video/audio flow transmitted from Plex Server, as it does with VLC…
Plex Clients are “Thin”, they only report back to the server what the client has for audio+video+subtitles. I do see progress with newer clients to leverage different players allowing the client to have more capabilities. I don’t have a Shield TV so I can’t say for certainty if it is leveraged.
OK so now that I understand a bit much the problem, I see that everyone using Plex on Shield TV has the problem : New option! Burn Subtitles: Avoid at all costs
I still don’t understand why Plex is so complex, I just wanted to organize my files properly and play them on my Gigabit LAN, but now you are telling me that VLC is a better option…
Where can I ask for an enhancement on Shield’s Plex Client where subtitles are not burned, as VLC works properly ? Everyone is asking it…
Looks like maybe some help for this is on the horizon, though still pretty far away:
We have plans to resolve this issue, and we’ve made some good progress on it. There are some changes required in PMS to support what we need that have been made, but are not yet released. Once these have landed, we’ll be looking to make use of in the Android app as soon as we can.
Thanks for the help to understand what’s going on, but now can you tell me if there is a chance to see this issue solved ?..
The link you posted is where you vote for feature requests. There is a staged rollout of the new Android client that should fix the audio transcode and possibly the srt subtitles won’t burn in.
