Unnecessary WAN Transcoding

Server Version#: 1.40.1.8227
Player Version#: IOS 8.33

I’ve noticed this happening a few times now.

My server only has ~10mbps upload, I have the WAN cap set to 8mbps in Plex setting.

My media has an original quality of say 3.4mbps total including video and audio HEVC, but for some reason its transcoding to some absurd 1080p 20mbps h.264 do to “bandwidth restraints”… but your transcoding to a larger bandwidth need for a lower quality than if you just directly streamed the media… there is also no need to transcode for compatibility as the client device is capable of HEVC playback. What’s even more Annoying is if I manually tell it to play original media it does not care and transcodes it anyway. It does not always do this either just it will seemingly randomly decide that the media needs to be transcoded to a LARGER bandwidth… which by the was buffers as it’s much larger than the set bandwidth limit. Can a dev please look into the logic on how Plex decides it needs to transcode and if the original media is smaller to just not transcode…
