I hope this is in the right topic area…
Has anyone used Unraid with an m.2 PCIe drive for cache? I have purchased a GIGABYTE W480 Vision W, Intel Core i7-10700, 2x XPG SX8200 Pro 512GB 3D NAND NVMe Gen3x4 PCIe M.2 (hoping to use one of these for a cache drive for metadata for Plex, the other for general cache for the Unraid Array of drives). Am I doing this correctly? My array is 5x 4TB HGST Enterprise Drives with dual parity HGST 6TB Enterprise drives. I also purchased a GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 2070. If I turn on hardware transcoding, I presume that I can offload work from the CPU to the GPU? I know that the Quadro P2000 is the most recommended graphics card here on the forum, but have any of you used the RTX 2070 or any RTX card for transcoding?
I would recommend you just put your metadata on the raidset instead of putting it on a cache drive, I mean you will have 20T on your raidset.
Cache isn’t protected so if you have a failure on that drive you will lose all your metadata which is not ideal.
I use my unraid cache drive and write everything new to it so new recordings and downloads all go to cache and it gets written to the raidset after hours.
And use the cache drive for the transcoding directory in Plex to increase read write speed.
I have a seperate “unassigned” drive for my plex Mets data. Check out bytemybits videos on YouTube and spaceinvaderone videos for how to set this up
