Updated title: 8.29.1 - audio transcoding still broken [OPUS / AAC]

A new version has been released.
https://forums.plex.tv/t/plex-for-android/29115/415
Anyone who tried it and can verify that the transcoding issue has been fixed?

Yeah I’ve tied it. Can confirm that it fixes the audio issues in that AAC and OPUS are now transcoded to AC3 for me (when I have passthrough set to optical and AC3 and DTS enabled).

The only remaining issue I have is that DTS-HD is not transcoded to either AC3 or DTS, despite my Shield/Android TV detecting that my AV receiver does not support DTS-HD. Since DTS-HD is not transcoded I just end up with PCM.

But at least AAC and OPUS transcoding is working again.

Unfortunately, when set to hdmi pass-through it is still passing through 5.1 aac, which then gets converted to stereo pcm by the tv and sent to the receiver.

It works correctly on the roku app so i know its the andriod app that is causing this. :disappointed:

Hmm it’s not working for me. Still converting to OPUS

Are you sure your installed version is 8.30.0? There was a staged rollout so maybe the latest version in Play Store was still 8.29.1?

Still using 8.29.1, I guess I have to wait for it

Has anyone successfully gotten the 8.30 update from the play store? I know it’s a staged rollout but the play store is still showing that the latest update was Feb 15 v8.29.1. I’ve checked from multiple devices and accounts and it’s almost been 4 days now

Yep, I’m in Australia and I got 8.30.0 through the Play Store. I also just got an update for Plex Media Server.

Did they halt the rollout or something? It’s almost been a week now and none of 4 CCWGTV across 3 accounts have received the update. The release notes said the rollout would be a day or two.

Now with version 8.30.0 it works again.
Lets hope it stays like that
