Hi,

It doesn’t need that much for me!

  • Keyboard navigation support (so remote can at least work)

  • Advanced options (Audio / Video / Buffer size)

I’m really pleased that people seem to be in favour of this and appalled at Plex’s treatment of its loyal users.

If you are reading this and have voted for this request, can you also go the extra mile and share this anywhere you can to keep those votes ticking upwards.
We need this to really grow and grow, else it’s too easy for the developers to ignore.

They said in the blog post that the decision to screw their users over was a “bittersweet” one so hopefully that means they know deep down its the wrong direction to go, so we just need to show them exactly ** HOW** wrong it is and how strongly we feel.

For all those people who have invested in HTPC set ups spesfically because of Plex, for those who paid for the Plex pass, in part to support an app they rely on, only to have it rendered useless to them on a whim, to those who have a HTPC running constantly to serve Plex anyway and now need to not only buy, but power a second device (thus rendering the excuse that it will save energy to use a streaming device pointless), we need to make our opinion clear.

That being that this is not acceptable to us.

Those on a monthly/yearly Plex pass, comment below if you now intend on canceling your subscription, or those, like me, who paid for a lifetime pass, do you know of anyway we can demand a refund and switch to a competitor of Plex who better understands its users and actually cares about them?

If this crazy development choice isn’t reversed, can anyone recommend an alternative that we can switch to?

Please comment below after you have voted for this request and shared this post with any other Plex user out there.

We can’t let this go unchallenged!

Adding my vote to this. Was completely baffled when I read the announcement. I thought the UI refresh of PMP and more frequent builds indicated they had come to understand the value of the flagship client.

Say what you want about the usage analytics/statistics, but I have a feeling a less-than-insignificant number of users will abandon Plex as a result of the lack of a quality HTPC client…and take with them all the secondary/tertiary clients with them. For me, that’d mean my family/friends, most of whom use streaming media players. There’s not a chance they will end up setting up their own PMS, so they will also simply abandon the platform if I go. In this case (and I’m sure others) 1 HTPC client = 7-10 streaming devices.

I can’t be alone in thinking this is a huge miss on the Plex team’s part. This decision just seems 3-4 years too soon. The streaming clients aren’t there yet to appeal to home theater audiophiles.

Got my vote otherwise it’s Emby for me and all the users I’ll take with me.

Yes, don’t drop HTPC Support! As soon as I loose this feature I will be immediately switching to emby. You claim you don’t have the resources to maintain it while my money is going to maintain features no one cares about. I will take my money elsewhere. You have lost your core focus!!!

Another vote from me.

Long time Plex user, got the HTPC with the server and PMP on it, with a 4K TV.

Losing TV mode is a really bad step backwards, and will seriously make me consider taking my server, and the 7 or so shared users to another platform…

tldr; got my vote

At a bare minimum Keyboard navigation should work. As in using the Arrow Keys, Enter and esc/backspace to move around the menu to find what to play instead of forcing the use of a mouse

Seems that some media player controls work. aka pause/resume, stop. but again cannot navigate while playing for chapters etc. like you can on the roku app

Emby. The devs have said in their forums since Plex’s announcement they have no plans of discontinuing their HTPC support.

I got a refund on my lifetime plexpass after I went through a list of bugs that hadn’t been fixed on my devices since I purchased the pass (a year earlier), and listed ones that had shown up since.

I haven’t been using Plex for sometime now. Right now it won’t even open on my FireTV, it just crashes.

I’ll add a vote for you HTPC users too, even though I don’t use it…

I’ve edited the title of this post to help convey how important this issue is. Please can everyone vote for and share this feature request.

This feature is why I bought a Plex Pass. It is the main way we use Plex. Hopefully, the devs change their mind. If not, we will have to look for another solution.
