I actually missed that 444 users comment.
Do we know if that was 444 users in total using PMP or 444 users using PMP in TV Mode?
That’s the quote:
“I don’t doubt there are a number of people unhappy with the decision, and quite frankly, I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a high overlap with people who use these forums. But you also have to keep in mind that we have millions of users, and are looking at aggregate playback stats. So yes, there are at least 444 people who dislike the idea of HTPC mode going away, but you have to view this in the context of the actual use being a tiny fraction of overall playbacks (and decreasing).”

Unless i’m mistaken we’re also losing audio passthrough with the new app Stereo only.
Think I’m right behind you. A buddy of mine that I got to buy into the Plex ecosystem just gave up his subscription to Plex and moved to Emby. Keeps telling me how great it is. It looks like they have me covered on my HTPC, ios, android and Roku so honestly (and can’t believe I’m saying this) it’s looking like I will be leaving soon. Sad really because of things going on in my personal life, folks hear me all the time saying that as long as i have Plex and my cigars, i can get through the day (that’s for another forum, btw). The deal breaker is the audio pass through and how trivial the attitude of the company is given to it. Oh well, I’m just a subscriber and not an owner of the company. The only thing I can do is just move on and take my money elsewhere.
Looking at Twitter and the other threads concerning this, it is clear a lot of people really rely on Plex’s HTPC features. So if you’re reading this and haven’t given your vote on this issue yet, please scroll to the top and hit that vote button. Then share this with all other Plex users you can find.
Thanks
Bring back PMP OR add a 10’ UI to the app. Voted.
Hummm, I’m lost, correct me if I’m wrong what the plex team are going to do is, kill the Windows Store Plex APP, and they are going to start putting all the “development” in the new Epic Game Plex APP, soy they will “kill” the Plex Media Player app, to have only one APP, instead of two.
What I get was, instead of having 3 apps, we are going to have just one with all the functionality.
So? I don’t see the Issue here…
The only change is going to be, install one app, and we are going to have in the same app the player and the server… (As a developer, I know for sure this is the right move!)
So, can someone explain me the issue?
The issue is that they are removing the htpc/tv interface and the possibility to use keyboard/remotes to control plex in windows and mac.
Ok, so the complain is that the new app, its not going to be “tv” friendly, but you cant use the web instead?
With a remote? With Atmos? Erm No.
I, for example, have a windows computer with plex tv UI to autostart, and I use a configured remote to navigate as if it where a tv. I do this, because it works better and faster than an android tv device and the Amazon fire tv I both own.
Hum thanks for all the explanation, I never use plex like that, I always have plex in a power pc with and a TV app (with the TV remote, and the Surround of the TV), so for me, having a windows just to run plex its kind of overkill for nothing, but I get what you are saying.
And its kind of lame that Plex doesent implement this stuff in the new app, they just need to “adapt” the old stuff.
Well probably they are using a library/framework to get the app going in all platforms that doesn’t handle well the TV Interface.
Thanks for the explanation, I will up-vote now!
The TV interface is already exists in the old app. I don’t see it as being an impossible amount of work to just port that over to the new app.
What the Plex team seem to want is to force their original users, the ones who supported them, who advocated the Plex system to their friends and who gave them their money to abandon Plex. It’s more than a shame. It’s a betrayal. And shows that you can’t rely on the Plex development team to not some day decide to remove any feature that people rely on.
It’s just a shame that Plex is dying due to mismanagement. Especially for those that have paid for the lifetime Plex pass.
I wonder if the people over at Emby are planning a sale of their lifetime membership to take advantage of all the people who are being forced to give up on Plex.
Voted! It is absolutely mission critical for me to have TV mode on my HTPC. Pelase, Plex, keep it going.
Has Plex announced they’ll be removing the download for PMP or making the server incompatible with it?
I don’t think they’ve specifically said they’ll take the download offline (though I may be wrong there!). But it would make sense for them to do so since the product is being retired. It would definitely be a good idea to keep an offline copy.
Quite the opposite, they’ve said they have no plans to make PMS incompatible with PMP. It’s very possible it’ll work for quite a while past the support deadline.
In that case it doesn’t sound like there is an urgent need to save ‘HTPC’… Or have I missed something?
