User Browsing Info/History/Analytics

I think this would be a worthy edition to the many admins of Plex servers that share their media for friends and family.  I've already requested this in the PlexWatch thread but it sounds like the Now Playing API needs to support this first.

I am already running PlexWatch and PlexWatch/Web on my server, so the activity and history of media actually played is working great.

However, I know that a lot of my users are just logging in and checking out what's new, etc.  Since I'm a data junkie, I'd really like an easy way to see what they are browsing.  Further to this idea, perhaps even Google Analytics support so that I can figure out which Movies and TV Shows are generating the most interest, etc.

yes, i'd agree with this feature request. i'm impressed with Plex Notify so far after finding plexWatch/Web's need for a server prohibitive. although i would truly prefer to access this type of info from within plex itself - even if only as a more comprehensive webui accessable remotely.

my biggest plex headache is failing to connect to the server - which is usually resolved with a reboot of both router & PMS machine.  instant notification of the server being disconnected would allow me to offer a more reliable service to those i share my server with.

Hell no... there's no need in this world for more privacy invasion. If you're a data junkie, I respectfully suggest starting a postage stamp collection or go working for a certain government agency.

If it was optional and or worked like the netflix watched list I think it would be okay.

Yeah but would it also be optional for the people watching media on the system? Or just for the admin? I just have a hard time believing anyone likes to be watched and analyzed, and I strongly believe in everyone's right to know and opt-out. No personal offense to OP, but such features are a little too Orwellian.

Have you ever ran your own server?  Or understand the ideas behind big data?

Being an administrator, you want to know what is going on across all your machines, programs, and services - and having a better representation of already existing data (read: PMS Logs) is important.

Now if you are only an end user, this wouldn't be something that you would care about.  In fact, you probably shouldn't  even be posting your response on these forums if you are afraid of privacy issues as it automatically allows forum and server admins to track every activity that you do.

I do run my own dedicated Ubuntu server with PMS on it... What's there to understand about "Big Data"? Is there any justification for the violation of people's privacy, a fundamental human right recognized by the UN declaration of rights?

I am an administrator, and I see it in my duties not to abuse the power to watch what others are doing on my server. I grant them their privacy, and so should everybody else, and features that go into 1984 territory should not be implemented. That's my personal opinion, and I stand by it.

If it's an invasion of people's privacy, then there shouldn't be any logs kept anywhere, but there are.  All I am saying is to represent that data in a more user-friendly way - I don't see that as an invasion of anyone's privacy.

If you don't care to monitor your own server and perform analytics on what's happening on it, you don't have to - that's the beauty of having options - just like there is an option in the Plex Server config for turning on DEBUG/VERBOSE logging.

Yeah, I guess we just have differing views on that subject, which is ok. Let's respectfully agree to disagree. No personal offense.
