I’d like to specify a custom location for the video thumbnails because their generation requires a large amount of disk space.
These can then be located on an SSD for speed.
Those that have a backup strategy for their servers will find that backing up these databases is costly, and as such locating them in a different location allows them to be easily excluded from any backup.
I would really love to have that. Sometimes you don’t want the data folders too big, just in case you want to move it somewhere else, or maybe you just don’t have enough free space on the drive… it just needs a small field to browse for a folder, and place ALL video preview thumbnails there.
It’s an easy to do feature. People who has them on the default folder could move them to the new location before scraping new content too. I just don’t know why this hasn’t been implemented yet! You want to change the folder? do it. You don’t want to change it? leave the field as default. It would be SOOOO easy!
Set the hardcoded path as a var, then add a field on the settings so the user could change that var value. I bet it’s not hard to implement.
I think this would be a great feature or have better compression on the images as they are small they don’t need to be HQ. Just enough so you know what you’re moving too.
It would really be amazing if you could at least loacte the thumbs separate from other stuff in */Media.
I have a rather large library (>50TB).
Normal Metadata needs to be on an SSD for faster Browsing, the preview-thumbs however could be loaded from my RAID-Array which is more than fast enough for these.
Sadly the current directory structure doesn’t really allow for this…
