We have a client that is considering using Plex running on Synology NAS drives across a fleet of 35 coaches.
The coaches are connected to the internet periodically, and this throws up some challenges. For example, if a guest signs the client device (the onboard TV) out of Plex whilst the coach is offline, it cannot be reconnected until the coach has internet connectivity - as I understand it? Is this correct?
Can anyone suggest any kind of work around to try and make Plex more robust in an offline environment please?
Or don’t sign into your server. Leave it unclaimed. You can still update content and metadata when you have internet access, but won’t have to worry about losing connection when it goes out. Of course this does leave your server vulnerable to being claimed by someone else on the same network when it does have internet access. But if this is for your work, hopefully the employees won’t play games with that.
No true. If the server is unclaimed, you can still set it up as long as you connect from a computer on the same network using that server’s local IP. If you couldn’t get to the settings, if you accidentally signed out, you wouldn’t be able to reclaim it and that would be bad.
The other option would be to setup a managed user. Then the user can’t sign out. Out a pin on the admin account and the user won’t be able to switch to that account. If you lose internet, it should still work with the managed user.
During the initial set up wizard one of the option is to enable remote access which is enabled by default because most folks want it. If that is enabled then it will ask to sign in to claim when wizard finishes because remote access needs sign in and internet.
