Followed the recommended naming convention and folder structure for Various artists albums but cannot then search for artists contained in these compilation albums (tried in web app and windows desktop app), this has been raised in two separate threads with no response, this seems like quite a fundamental bug does anyone have any insights into this please?

Plex won’t find the artist as an artist, but it does find tracks for the artist, as noted in the second thread you referenced:

Better handling of artists in VA compilations is the subject of a long-standing feature request.

One would hope that such a long standing fairly fundamental request would have found its’ way onto the development list by now…is there any indication that better handling of artist meta vs albumartist will get adopted? Seems like the suggestion of choosing between modes is the most flexible.
No, they’re pretty closed-mouthed about their roadmap.
