Didn’t include logs because not sure where to start with this, I recently went through my entire music collection with MusicBrainz Picard (I had some inconsistency when dealing with multiple disc albums) and updated all metadata and standardized the directory structure. I then created a whole new Library in Plex but when I added all of the data to my server and ran the scanner, it classified all of the “Various Artist” albums in a very strange way. I view my Music library as Albums sorted by album artist and “Various” shows up under the letter “F.” I triple checked the file metadata, took a backup of the Plex DB and checked some of the tables, I can’t figure out why and where Plex is getting the “F” from in “Various Artists”
Anyone run into this or can offer some other advice?
If you haven’t already, view your library by artists, edit the “Various Artists” artist, and check the general tab to ensure that sort artist doesn’t contain something weird/unexpected. I’m not sure if that would affect the sorting when viewing by album, but it can’t hurt to check.
(I intentionally set my sort artist to “zVarious Artists” to force it to be the last in the list of artists, since that’s how I generally view my library.)
Thanks, changing the sort view to “Artist” allowed me to figure out that the sort artist had been set to the name of the artist on the first album the scanner encountered, who’s last name happened to start with an “F.” I manually changed the sort name to “Various Artists” and locked it in the UI and all is well now. Thanks!
You’re welcome, glad you got it working!
