VBox 3442 dose not want to cooperate

I have a VBox 3442 (DVB-T) and I struggle to make it work together with plex. My problem is that with the firmware that support plex (2.59.14, not sure if there is another firmware available with plex support) I can’t get a video stream with the official app or plex.

I confirmed that I can get a video stream with the android app with factory default firmware 2.52 (I think) and 2.59, the latest firmware that is available on from the vbox website. On these two firmwares the VBox dose not appear in the plex setup. I found firmware 2.59.14 on the plex forums only and with that I got the extra option to activate plex support in the settings and it connects without problem to plex but no video stream. I re-scanned tv channels after flashing each firmware. I have not tried factory resetting the box yet. I read that they will release a 2.65 soon that hopefully will solve my problems. What do I need to do in order to get this setup to work? Is there another firmware available? What is the official way (since it is a officially supported DVR)?

I am running plex 1.18.5.2309 on a synology ds718+ nas. The error from plex is:
Playback error
Could not tune channel. Please check your tuner or antenna.
On the VBox android app I just get a black screen but with the correct program information.

I retrieved some logs from my VBox. It is only from log level 2 (error) and I have no idea what logs would be useful. To me it looks normal. Does anyone have any clue what could be wrong?

(I also tried disabling plex support in settings but no difference on firmware 2.59.14)

Help  Does anyone have any information about this? Is this the only way to get support from Plex? I feel a bit let down…

I also had many problems using VBox 3452 (DVB-C). My setup is also different from yours (no NAS). I finally got it to work with firmware 2.59.14 and “activate Plex” ticked.
Maybe two hints can help: If there are any entry marked as “Unnamed” in your channel list - they are poison. I had to check with my DVB-C provider wich is what and rename it accordingly, deleting any channels I could not resolve.
After that - but maybe you should try that even first: Delete your DVR in Plex and set it up anew. For me, this solved the problem. Hope this helps.

Thank you for your reply! I checked my channel list and I did not find any Unnamed ones. I had some which were encrypted but named, I guess that does not matter.
I tried deleting it in Plex again and no difference. I still get the playback error. Thanks again for your reply. I hope someone from Plex can provide me with some proper support before the end of this year :unamused:

I’ve had a VBox 3442 against Plex for over six months now and I am very unhappy with the experience.

I regularly have to reboot the device (soft reset doesn’t work, I have to switch power off then disconnect from the power supply for 30 secs) in order for it to be picked up within Plex.

I get the same experience as you are describing after a short period of “normal” operation. By “normal”, I mean being able to watch live TV through the Plex TV Guide or record a show.

However, the VBox will always go unresponsive. It sometimes happens in minutes, sometimes a couple of days, but it always happens.

Symptoms include the “Playback Error” you are getting. It also fails to respond via a browser. It does respond to a ping via the Terminal window but it always needs a hard reboot.

I had these problems from the beginning and VBoxComm gave me an early release of new firmware which seemed to work. However, I cannot go more than a few days without it failing.

Given that I want to use Plex as a PVR and retire my old Humax PVR, it is failing and is practically useless to me as it stands.

I will have one more go at contacting VBoxComm for help with this and will report if I get anywhere.

I have Plex server 1.18.9.2578 running on a Synology NAS DS918+. My VBox is running firmware version XTI_VJ.2.65. I started with XTI_VJ.2.59 but the problems remained.

Thank you for your reply! It seems like it is impossible to get the VBox to work… Please let me know if VBoxComm is able to come up with some magical solution.

To me it is unfathomable how Plex can list the VBox XTi-3442 as officially supported when that is obviously not the case. How difficult can it be for Plex to provide a little more information about which firmware they used to get it to work (I assume they test the pvr before listing it as officially supported). Maybe they simply never tried and VBox told them it works :man_shrugging:.

Would you mind sharing the 2.65 firmware? I still have hopes in firmware 2.65 since it seems to provide some improvements.
