[Very Popular] myPlex: buffer content Youtube-style

It’s been several months with (go figure) more silence from plex. Any updates on this? @MovieFan.Plex

still hoping for this (my number one wish)

I need this on my home network as some of the TVs buffer endlessly

I would love for this feature to be implemented.

I hope “McStreamy the Showering Robot” learns how to implement this feature too!

Yet another feature request addressing the issue of [not having an automatic bandwidth option like Netflix]. This is so beyond necessary!

Some clients on my server moved to an area with really spotty internet. Anything that buffers is ok, but plex is stutter-town

I would love to see this as well. I use plex one good but unreliable networks a lot. I get 10mbit easily but sometimes it stutters anyway and with a bigger buffer it would fix that problem.

I like the idea but there would need to be some level of control. I’ve seen via Plexpy that quite often users will pause a show due to babies crying or whatever and not come back to it until a few days later in which time their client has shut off etc. This could result in the entire movie being uploaded multiple times.

In most cases it will be limited by the cache availability of whatever device they are using. Few will be able to buffer a whole movie. 6-8 minute average Youtube videos are another story.

Sorry for the lateness. Didn’t get the ping. I think I’ve mentioned this before, but can’t find my comment now or it was in another thread.

Buffering the content ahead of time is only possible if the media is being direct played. If the client supports this, it will buffer slightly ahead and you will see a difference in the timeline slider. Buffering ahead when not direct playing (HLS streaming) is not currently possible, HLS just does not support this type of buffering.

Excellent idea +1

voted…with a like and +1 to bring it up

Still would love to see this, not being able to buffer transcoded media on the client side when it can be buffered on the server side seems weird…

Most needed feature

Even on android this would be useful. Sprints LTE/3G is so unreliable and Plex Sync is still broken.

Is this feature ever come?

sucks when im in a hotel with spotty wifi and my entire library becomes a stuttering mess

@MovieFan.Plex: read your reason why youtube type buffering is currently not possible on anything but direct play. However is seems that all you would need to do is to store the last 10 or so segments as a buffer and then HLS streaming would work. This link below appear to me to be very similar even though it is only for music , (I am certainly not an expert on this however )

Back on the original Apple TV when bandwidth was narrower, I remember renting a movie and being prompted that “Video will be ready in 25 minutes…”

I’d love to be able to stream my current media this way on Plex!
