Direct play can still give buffering problems unless your on the same network..
yes this would solve a lot of my issues with android playing plex vids

Maybe a quick workaround:
Be able to watch content as it's syncing: Basically use the sync feature as a manually-initiated buffer.
Of course, the sync is transferring in order from beginning to end anyway...

I agree, this feature would improve usability greatly!

That would be pretty awesome
I think this is one of the biggest things that hold Plex back, everybody that I talk to would prefer a wait at the beginning of the video, rather than constant buffering throughout the video. I guess that there are memory limitations of the client playing the video.........
I can report that the Plex Home Theatre previews feature rewritten buffering code, which is a first step towards this.
Right now it's capped at buffering 30% or 100MB (whichever's smaller), and to see the buffer status you need to pull the stream statistics, which isn't very glamorous.
I haven't been able to make it buffer those 30% though, but perhaps it's a minor bug.
Let's hope the Plex team can lift the artificial buffer limits and perhaps add a visual indication of the buffer status when you pause the video. I'd mark this as Solved if I could see that.

this feature would make it possible to stream Movies higher then 10GB on my connection. All over that isn't possible right now, because my NAS CPU isn't high enought for the Transcoder.

I support this. Plex needs to have a better buffering scheme in place.
it's really needed! :)
a buffer-solution is especially needed for Plex/Web. It's annoying to have these long latency.
