[Very Popular] myPlex: buffer content Youtube-style

Still probably the most wanted feature for myself. It would just make the Plex experience much more enjoyable, when for whatever reason, your client doesn't have a stellar connection.

This is a brilliant idea!will work for everybody. This will come in handy when Im away from home and using a crappy wifi or 3G from my cell phone.

yeah, remote accessing isn't really possible for the most at all, without buffer :/

Absolutely voting for this. I'm kind of stunned Plex doesn't do this automatically. What reason could there be for *not* continuing to buffer content while paused?

Maybe its difficult to avhieve with all the different clients. Some dont have a lot of storage to write to (smart tvs etc)

well, i think it would be simple to add a function to each client, where u can adjust the size of the buffer. Like it's already done in PHT or Plex for SamsungTV.

I've already liked the first post, but I just had to put my two cents here.

Right now I'm at work trying to watch a movie (I have a lot of free time, ok?? don't judge me! :P) and the damn feed is stopping every 5 seconds. It's unwatchable. I already changed the buffer size but this has done nothing to it.

This functionality is essential. Letting it load while I take care of business and be able to watch at least 10m non-stop would be awesome.

What I don't understand is how such a popular thread such as this one still hasn't received any kind of response from anyone related to Plex development. What gives?

I understand we nag a lot and want all kinds of different features, but a simple 2-line explanation of why this can/cannot work and if you are even THINKING about putting in the pipeline would put a ****load of minds at ease.

What do you say? :)

I would absolutely love this feature!

This feature request would still be number one on my list, I would much prefer to pause a video and wait a while, than have it buffer every 10-30 seconds making it impossible to watch.

+1 FOR THIS.  im constantly on the road, so when im staying at a friends house watching a video using plex is annoying.  Buffering every minute or two, causing me to just give up and just channel surf on the cable tv.  But then sometimes it does buffer.

You did not accomplish anything. Read this.

Voted!

this request has 377 votes and no  replay from the devs?

Sometimes they prefer to develop rather than reply. It doesn't mean they haven't kept up with the vote counts -- look here. It's #3 in the most-popular polling.

Supercool idea.

you meant #2

you meant #2

Well, now it is. You'll notice 2 and 3 are separated by only a couple of votes... :)

voted up also.

Really we need maximum buffering capability at every level :) both in the server and in the clients.

I can report that the Plex Home Theatre previews feature rewritten buffering code, which is a first step towards this.

Right now it's capped at buffering 30% or 100MB (whichever's smaller), and to see the buffer status you need to pull the stream statistics, which isn't very glamorous.

I haven't been able to make it buffer those 30% though, but perhaps it's a minor bug.

Let's hope the Plex team can lift the artificial buffer limits and perhaps add a visual indication of the buffer status when you pause the video. I'd mark this as Solved if I could see that.

Is this true? Can anyone confirm the Desktop client has buffering capabilities? This would help a lot. My home upload connection is 1.5M (~120Kpbs) at best, often shaky, and I wish I could just let the video buffer for a while.

Just like to +1 this
