[Very Popular] PMS: Support of x86 Intel Evansport architecture

Any news? I really hope  there will be official support utilising the full potential of our DS214play devices... Now I am forced to use DS Video (without subtitles due to the problems with encoding).

Don't expect PMS support for Evansport anytime soon. Apparently, it's a matter of FFMPEG support (or rather, the lack of). The FFMPEG that Synology uses is apparently an older version that Plex doesn't support anymore, so it's of no use. I think we should be careful with our sense of entitlement: we did buy the DS214play knowing that Plex isn't even officially supported even without transcoding.

Also hoping support for this NAS will be forthcoming  :D

I am starting to agree with you. So.. I will just use the option which is officially provided by Synology, even if It is not so user friendly and functional :)

The latest PMS released today supports ds214play officially. I.e. no tweaking necessary. No transcoding though.

Yes, that's right..and I am not holding my breath anymore :)

The problem is that I am traveling a lot outside of the country where I leave (Bulgaria). And when I am in Germany for example, due to the relatively slow internet connection in the hotel I have to transcode the video.  I bought DS214play because after some research that was the only option  which supports hardware transcoding and suits my needs. I have no problems using Plex@home - I do not need the transcoding there.

My expectations regarding the support of Plex were very high and that's why I bought lifetime subscription. However, as far as i see Plex is still in it's early days. And although It is rapidly evolving, the team does not have the resources to support such a great variety of different devices and architectures from different vendors.

I do not regret for the subscription - I love Plex and will still continue using it, but i will have to make some compromises :)

Perhaps this feature could be melded into another request where external transcoders could be selected and the one about Transcoder control Panel.

It should be possible to have PMS detect or configure other transcoding methods available for use in the PMS system and if that was done then selecting ds214play transcoder as default should be possible.

Also opens up the system to use something other than FFMPEG should some better option come along.

I too am hoping they can make it a product that is worth the extra bucks. As of now there isnt any difference from the ds214se and play as both are crap for plex atm.
