video output initialization failed

I use my Raspberry Pi Model 3 B+ as my main client hooked up to my TV. However, I’ve stumbled across a strange issue lately, which only affects certain movies and episodes. I have found no correlation between the movies and episodes that don’t work. I’ve had both .mkv and .mp4 files work and not work, both H.264 work and not work.
Changing the local quality from ‘Original’ to ‘720p 4Mbps’ makes some unplayable movies run, but not all. Note: Anything above 720p 4Mbps does not work.

The strange thing is that these files all play on my phone, tablet, PC, chromecast - no issues. It’s only the RPi for some reason. Has anyone experienced the same and/or found a solution? If not, troubleshooting tips and help is very much appreciated!

The RPi is the client running PMP, not the server. Sorry for being so unclear. The server is hosted through a plugin in FreeNAS, running an i5 and 8GB ram. All movies and episodes that do not work are also 1080p.

The RPi is having an issue playing certain movies for some reason, even if all other players such as my PC, Chromecast, phone and tablet all work flawlessly.

I haven’t noticed any playback issues either before recently, however, only with a handful of seemingly random movies and episodes. Direct play or not doesn’t seem to make a difference.

I am running the latest official release of embedded PMP to my knowledge (#1.3.11.758-4be89b5c).
As for my MicroSD card, I’m running berryboot (multiple OS), though that shouldn’t be an issue, I think.
My PMS logs don’t tell me much besides the request and so forth, and then;

Apr 23, 2019 15:41:49.300 [0x80b50bc00] DEBUG - Failed to stream media, client probably disconnected after 5849088 bytes: 32 - Broken pipe

Might just be from me pressing the “Go back” button after the error message pops up.

SOLVED

I didn’t find any other solution but downloading the latest beta version of the PMP for RPi. Not a fan of the new UI, but at least it works and plays all my movies and episodes without a hitch.
