Video quality is lower watching directly off of server web player

I’m trying to watch a movie directly off my server computer, using the local player in firefox.
I’m seeing a weird quality drop compared to just watching the films with the normal windows 10 media player. It’s affected multiple movies. Not sure at all what is going on.

Is this normal for the local web player? I feel like it shouldn’t be.

Update:
Tried streaming off of app.plex.tv and the quality looks fine there, so something is definitely wrong.

Why shouldn’t it?
Keep in mind that browsers are the most limited when it comes to video playback. Therefore the most likely to cause your video not to be played natively but ask the server to transcode it instead.

If you use the Plex desktop app (Plex Media Player or Plex for Mac/Windows), you should get a better playback experience.

I just tried it on a different computer using app.plex.tv and the quality was fine on that. It wasn’t nearly as low as using the web player off the server.

Refreshed the page, and tested it again. Now it seems to be working. No clue why that happened at all.
