Video thumbnail generation during Live TV playback

Player Version#: 3.73.1 hosted on plex.tv or the latest Plex Media Player

I noticed that new movies and TV-shows do not finish their thumbnail generation as long as Live TV is playing. If I stop the TV playback my CPU usage spikes up and the process indicator for the thumbnail generation in the web app’s activity icon advances. As soon as I start watching a TV channel the CPU usage drops down and the thumbnail generation does not seem to advance anymore.

Afaik the thumbnail generation is done entirely on the CPU but the TV channels are using “Direct Stream” and for anything else the HW-accerleration of my GTX 1070 is used.

Did anyone else notice this behavior?

TV live playback is considered more important, so the thumbnail generation is throttled during this time.

Is this documented somewhere? There is nothing on https://support.plex.tv/articles/202197528-video-preview-thumbnails/ and maybe this should be added there?
