I spent ages sorting box-sets into “collections” on plex. For example I have Alien Anthogy and wanted each movie under the heading Alien Anthology in my movie list. Managed to set this up on the server OK but how do I then view the “collection” on ANY of the clients. I have plex on Android, Android TV and Fire TV and nowhere can I see how I can view these collections.
I’ve read a number of posts on here about this but don’t understand how or why it is so difficult to implement something so obvious.
If there is a way can someone please explain in simple terms how I can do it?
Once you have tagged all of your movies with the proper tags, you edit the library. Under advances, pick “Show Collections and theri Items”, This will show a Collections icon as well as each movie. You can also hide the movies and only shoe the collection icon or just show the movies.
I had the same issue but in a larger scale… I wanted to see all my collections in a single library. This works on Android and AppleTV4k so it should work on other devices too. You can’t play the just collection from the top level icon is all but open the collection and play any item in it works fine… I don’t want to play all the movies that way anyway.
So I created a “New Library for Movies” named Collections.
Copied a movie file folder from a library tagged in a collection into the Collection’s movie folder.
Refreshed the Collections library.
Add a new poster to the collection item & save.
Now you can delete the movie file leaving the Collection poster.
Clicking on the Collection poster shows the movie pre play page as expected.
I went through my entire server and copied one movie from a collection into the Collections folder. Added a poster, then deleted the movie and refreshed the Collections library and all my collections are there. The trick is to add a poster to the collection and replace the default since deleting the movie will delete the collection poster.!

I like the idea but it would be easier to manager if PLEX just gave you the option of picking either a specific poster for the collection or to keep the montage.
It does under the collection edit settings… if you keep the default image it will go away when you delete the movie so you have to pick an image to replace it…
