VIZIO Internet Apps

Plex Music and stored videos work great with the Vizio Internet Apps “Media” button.

However, video channels like CBS, USANetwork, or ESPN3 don’t work. Has anyone had any luck with those?

That's nice to hear, but the VIA Media app doesn't work at all for me with Plex.
Can you please post your setup (TV model, firmware version, plex version, etc.)?

i have a m320sl with version 1.7.6.0670 running plex version 0.9.6.4 from the beta updates channel. i have alawys been able to see my dlna server in the media app. When i first got the tv it would not load anything from the directories but after a plex update it will load and play the avi files encoded in xvid or divix fine as long as you are not trying to rewind or fast-foward i am working on writing a profile for the tv but have not gotten far enough to want to share it yet as it does weird things like crashes my tv

I was looking at buying the Vizio CinemaWide, but wanted to know if the Vizio apps does indeed support the Plex App. Any details please?

+1 for VIA ! Looking at Bad-A TV but would really like a plex app for it so I can have absolutely no reason to turn my xbox back on.

Plex Media Server to Visio Internet TV (via Media app) works perfectly for me. The interface is not the greatest, but the streaming works fantastically well.

Just started looking into Yahoo’s Connected TV Platform, which Vizio leverages for their TV applications. I’m going to take a look at the possibilty of creating a Plex application for Vizio TVs. I will report any progress.

I just recently bought a Vizio TV, and I discovered it does NOT do DLNA. Not every Vizio TV is capable of it. So, for all of us who can’t use the Media app to browse our video files - if we could just get a Vizio native client… that would be perfect. Hopefully, the developers are working on one now, ready to surprise is in the next few months… maybe?

Finally got [my TV](http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009SJNTIY/ref=oh_details_o05_s00_i00) and seemingly have the same interface. (had an awesome Cyber Monday deal) It's just like doing it through an Xbox or PS3, just a folder view.

It works but I really don't want to give up the GUI of the PC platform for it. Plus, running the PMC on the same machine as the PMS makes it work really well. I'm just tired of the [Flirc](http://flirc.tv/) picking up signals when I'm in the Amazon video app and turning on Steam Big Picture Mode and starting games and crap.

Having just purchased a Vizio E601i-A3 and being a long time user of Plex, I would personally love to see an app or at least some sort of integration between the two.

+1 For Vizio VIA App.

Neither of the 2 VIA TVs I have will stream DLNA. Would love an official app to add in.

I have a Visio tv and use plex via the media app. But it only allows me to play avi’s , the mp4 and Mkv files don’t have a time next to them nor do they start.

Any had similar results?

So I started looking into development for the Vizio Internet App platform because I am considering picking up a Vizio Smart TV myself and figured I might as well kick in my development skills to help out the greater good… I have found that there is a surprisingly small amount of information on development for apps (so much so that I don’t even know what language it uses yet). I will continue my research though!

Ok, so far what I gather is this…

There are two versions of VIA (Vizio Internet Apps)…
[]VIA - This is powered by a Yahoo engine. This is a JavaScript based engine.

[
]VIA Plus - This is powered by a custom Google TV/Android engine. This is a Java based engine
So basically you wouldn’t need one single app, but rather two distinctly different apps.

I am not sure what the market is at as of right now (basically how many VIA TVs are in the market compared to VIA Plus TVs) but I would assume since VIA Plus was only released end of last year the VIA TVs still hold a large share. As such I am going to start looking into development for those set of TVs first although VIA Plus will probably be on the TV I will end up with so I won’t be able to test it outside of the emulator.

First little test - pulling the sections of my plex library!

I am not spending much time trying to make awesome looking interface... I am just working toward getting a basic functionality for playing videos right now.

Do you have the source on github?

I haven't put it out on GitHub yet because there isn't much that I have done just yet. I will be putting it out there soon.

I just sent a message to Vizio for what I called “Feature Request”. If they get bombarded with request to add a Plex App, maybe they’ll add it to their native store.

Here is the link for anyone else wanting to do the same.

Any progress on this to report?

BTW, I did send a message to Vizio.

Not really, had the shelve this work for now. I will try and pick it up in a week or two
