Just Noticed a “Early Access” Offer come though the Built in Plex App for my Vizio E70-E3.
So I tried it for a few days.
While i liked the way the UI Looks, it’s Similar to Samsung’s plex layout.
It runs stable enough…but it fails to play the majority of content from nas.
It would Give me Playback errors Saying
“An unexpected playback problem accurred”
I then thought “might be bad File type”
i Went and did a new file and still same error.
Then i tried the same video on other plex apps. (Samsung tv, Xbox one X, PC player, phone they all play fine. so this leaves to to think could be an app bug.
one day I tried to play the problem videos and it played through to end. when i tried to play it again…playback Error. I would have to hit the “play” button between 3-6 times before it would play. Same for majority of videos.
I hit play, would error out, play, error out, play, error out , hit play again and THEN it would play.
All plex apps i’ve been using are the native plex apps to each TV, console, and phone. Dont have anything apple, or a shield device.
So hopefully this has already been ironed out, and i’m just late to add my “Two Cents”
Im attaching pics of the old app versions as well as the the new.
Old is Ver: 3.13.13
New is Ver: 5.0.0
Thanks for the report, and especially thanks for including the model and chipset. I’ve filed an issue to look into this, but it would be great (and really appreciated) if you could get some info from me in the web client.
For one of the problem videos preplay screen select the options button and then Get Info:
Not sure if the XML you asked for is displayed correctly, New to all this.
here’s another one of a video that I just added.
This one took me hitting play 3 times before it played.
Both videos played in old app with out issue.
No stutter, pausing, for buffering. Checked the Web app as they were playing.
Both videos ran with video and audio “direct play”
Enclose it with 3x backticks ` above and below, so it gets marked as “code”.
I restored and fixed the above post for you. “Edit” it to see how it’s done.
@Stoned-Flies: This probably would only only affect 'The Big Hit`, but I’m wondering if all the Dolby Digital and True HD audio settings are disabled (User options->Settings->Audio). They should be disabled by default as these TVs don’t support any of those.
it actually happens on all movies and smaller videos, not just that one.
I Use the same file type and audio tracks for all videos i add to my nas to avoid transcoding
or converting video on the fly
But.
I did try running videos and movies i had with high quality audio (True HD, Atmos, Dolby digital, DTS, DTS-HD) outside of the plex app, using the TV Native media player and my surround came through seeing the right output.
but anyway, I’m going to try that. disabling the surround options in the app.
i do remember i ticked them all on once in the app. that could the the problem.
I’ll check it and report back as soon as i can.
I’ll keep the beta app on on my TV. while i help y’all figure this out.
See me as your Guinea Pig!
I tried running various videos including the test videos (XML Above).
With the Suggested actions:
Disabling The output Audio. (AC3, EAC3, True HD, DTS [DCA])
No selections play.
I then tried enabling AC3 Only and tried to play videos. none worked.
Added observation:
While I was going from movie to movie to see what file would play.
my finger slipped and clicked to play the trailer for a movie
Great to hear!
Of course when I was running those audio tests I was using a bluray compatible player through HDMI. I currently have the plex app on optical. I’ll switch it to hdmi arc, and report back on that.
@Stoned-Flies: The latest update, v5.0.1, should hopefully fix at least some of the playback issues you’ve seen. Let me know of any issues you’re still having, though we’ll likely need a log for those.
Seems to work out fine now played an entire movie with no play back issues.
I tried to switch audio streams, and subtitles. things seem to work out fine.
But…
right when the movie finishes, it seems like the app locks up.
as in the UI doesnt respond.
I exited the App and the app hangs on the splash image.
never really loads. left it at this screen for almost 2 mins.
Pic added
I’m gonna leave it over night and check back in the morning.
Hopefully its the TV acting up due to the update
since my Samsung acted the same way a few months back.
it didnt load, then i decided to uninstall it to reinstall it and
TV couldnt find the app in the store.
This lasted about two weeks then it finally worked again out the blue.
hopefully, it doesnt take two weeks for this one.
Let me know if get the hang at the end of playback again, and if it happens every time. If it’s not some weird fluke with the TV, it would be nice to know it it’s a general problem or just happens with some media. So far I haven’t been able to reproduce the behavior with the TVs I have.
there was a “fail to load” from a half played video I tried finish yesterday BUT my TV software caught an error and refused to want to start. until I unplugged the tv and replugged it in.
I believe that was attributed to the TV error not necessarily a plex app error. I did a “Soft Reboot” as the Tv calls its software (U.I.) reboot.
After, things popped up like nothing ever happened.
Feature Request:
If at all possible. there is a feature currently that Samsung tvs have.
its a chapter seek option.
anyway of adding that to this tv’s app.
so far so good.
I’ll keep checking it out try to find out its quirks.
Right now we’re focusing on matching the features of the old app. Once we’ve finished preview and the app goes public, we’ll be bringing this rewrite to the other TV platforms and we’ll be focusing on matching the features of those TV apps, which will then come to the Vizio app as well. After that we’ll be able to focus on features that are on other clients and not yet in the TV clients.
TL;DR It’s coming, probably not long after this version comes out of preview.
