Vizio Smart TV 65"

Maybe someone could help me.  I read the requirements for Vizio TV's which are the following

  • Container: MP4
  • Resolution: 1920x1080 or smaller
  • Video Encoding: H.264
  • Video Framerate: 30fps
  • Video Bit Depth: 8
  • Audio Encoding: AAC
  • Bitrate: 8 Mbps or lower

So I have 2 movies that I attempted to play.  Both are in the MKV container, one is 720p and the other is 1080p.

First movies specs are:

Video: MPEG4 Video (H264) 1280x528 23.976fps [V: h264 high L4.1, yuv420p, 1280x528 [default]]

Second movies specs are:

Video: MPEG4 Video (H264) 1920x1032 23.976fps [V: English [eng] (h264 high L4.0, yuv420p, 1920x1032) [default]]

The 720p movie plays back as "Direct Stream" while the 1080p movies plays back as "Transcoding" for the video and audio is "direct stream".

The only differences I see in these specs are resolution and bitrate level (L4.0 and L4.1).  Both movies are less than 8Mbps.  Can anyone tell me why the 1080 film required transcoding?  If there's anymore info I need I will post the entire clip media info.

Do you have the bitrate in vizio set to be higher than 8mbps (if the 1080p is 8Mbps) post both xmls on the files so we can have a better look at the details of the files.

I don't believe I have it set higher... I'm not 100% sure where that option is but I'll look.

Here are the requested xmls

Gravity.xml (3.7 KB)

Devils Due.xml (3.96 KB)

If I were to bet then you have it set to 4Mbps (default) since that's the only differences VIDEO wise between the two.

I found the option under Web -->  Player and it said "Local 8Mbps"  "Remote 4mbps"  "Channel 4Mbps"

Is that the option you're referring to?  I changed all of them to 8.

You have to set it on the vizio tv plex options, not the plex web options (that's for watching a video via that web page :)

Yeah, I just ended up buying her a Roku... installing Plex and saying "have fun!"

Haven't had a problem since lol
