Volume control on most vids don't work on Android to Chromecast streaming

This has been driving me crazy for…years. Please help :slight_smile:

I’m streaming vids from my Windows Plex server to my Chromecast via the Plex Android app. For most videos, I can not use my android phone to control the volume. On the tv screen, I’m told I can’t use Android to control the volume because I have surround sound turned on. I get the same message whether or not surround sound is turned on. This is not an issue with my tv because I have multiple Chromecasts connected to different brands of TVs, but continue getting the same message.

Sometimes (but rarely), if I tell the app to stream at a lower bandwidth (like 480), I can suddenly control the volume, but when streaming at 720, 1080, or higher, I get this message.

I would love to use my Android phone to control the volume on Chromecast like it’s supposed to do – any ideas?
