Yet another useless feature released by Plex while we wait for existing functionality to be fixed.
Still need Live TV/DVR on Xbox One, need the app to stop buffering on Xbox One, need to be able to share DVR with managed users, need a commercial cut that actually works without cutting out large parts of shows with no way to backup the uncut version, need DLNA playlists, need the ability to share playlists, … and the list goes on.
Really, Plex, you don’t seem to be prioritizing work correctly. Are there any features/fixes others would prefer to see more than Plex VR?
FWIW: I have given up on Plex ever even remotely showing that they are actually responsive to their customer base or even to their own best interests.
Plex is in the early (maybe not so early) stages of a self destructive spiral. If they were a person I might expect a suicide attempt as soon as they hit bottom. Maybe placing Plex on a suicide watch would not be premature.
I just actually went into Plex on my Roku to see the live tv. OMG terrible. You can’t really see what’s on. It tells the shows and episodes. I just want the channel listed. Then when your on the channel it can say what’s in and stuff. Oh and starting at top left then the next channel is done the next channel in to the right and at the top again. Is it just me? Who would want to surf your locals this way?
Maybe this VR is what I need to restart my Plex Server Automatically when files get locked up and can’t be deleted - with yet another base function that no longer works:
Plex doesn’t actually use Plex - at least not in the way users do - so they can’t reproduce the issue (if you actually believe they’re trying) - so the call is going out for upper-echelon coders that can fix the problem - then tell Plex what they did… while Plex bounds, ears-o-flappin’, through open fields of wild flowers chasing pretty butterflies or shiny balloons.

Plex can’t do HDR properly, fetch metadata with IPv6 enabled at all (seriously, it’s 2018) and doesn’t have a proper HTPC client, but they put in VR??
This, together with other mostly useless stuff like news, is just a sign of them looking for other ways to monetize the users through back channels and partnerships. Refinement of media playback from you own computer is obviously not well spent developer money, as there is no money in that after you paid for your Plex Pass.
I regret buying the Plex Pass a couple of years ago, as I feel somewhat commited to run Plex because of that. But the signs are clear. This is no longer a product for enthusiasts, and what they don’t seem to realize is that there are ONLY enthusiasts that are setting up Plex servers, so turning plex into something stupid and dumbed down with lots of non-core features that other do much better is turning us away. The ordinary person does not even understand the concept of a server.
You should start throwing things out of Plex, and fix the existing stuff instead!
I said the same thing earlier to a friend before seeing this thread. This shows exactly how I feel about this. Cool, but why haven’t features, which you make us pay for, been fixed? As I type this, I’ve been trying to sync my music library to my phone and it continues to be as broken as it was 3 months ago, which shouldn’t even be a thing as Sync has been complained about for well over a year at this point.
Please, Plex, PLEASE re-prioritize your focus to fixing bugs, especially the ones that are long-standing and the ones you make us pay for.
Plex VR doesn’t appear to be working all that well either. Are there any Plex VR users out there experiencing these issues…
I can watch a movie in Plex VR no problem. A friend of mine can watch a movie in Plex VR no problem (even one of my movies from my Plex Cloud). But we cannot watch that movie TOGETHER. We have no problem seeing each other online. Either one of us can invite the other. We see each other’s avatars. But when either of us starts the movie, the curtains get about halfway down, then rise again. The movie never plays - the same movie that either of us can watch on our own without issue. We successfully watched a movie together about 2 weeks ago without issue. Nothing has changed on our end. It just no longer works.
Being able to talk when together has never reliably worked. The push-to-talk approach is unreliable and spotty. I see an option in there that forces push-to-talk even when using a wired headset. To me that implied that if you do not select that option, then if you have a wired headset, shouldn’t it just work without having to push anything? But that does not seem to be the case.
We both have the newest version of the Galaxy Daydream. We both have a Samsung Galaxy 8. We both use the wired earbuds/microphone that comes with the phone. We are both Plex Pass members (as it seems to be ambiguous whether or not both people involved need to be Plex Pass members for this to work).
Naturally this is quite frustrating as the app was released to much fanfare. I see a lot of posts on these boards where people are having problems. There appears no way to receive technical support (even for paying members) other than posting to the board. Yet nobody from Plex reliably answers.
Hopefully we can all help each other figure it out if there is a solution within our control.
The fact that Plex VR doesn’t work offline piss me off at a level you can’t imagine…
Like, seriously, The most frequent I have with vr is on train or plane, where connection isn’t always reliable or/and inexistant, so How I’m supposed to do ?
They release features nobody asked for and never take care of them…
