Watching anything like a movie or a tv-show on VR is a real drag. Tried it with my HTC Vive. It sucks. Why should I change my real life high-res TV to a low-res sweaty headpiece. I never understood the advantages of this.
VR is the new fad. Companies are pushing things to be VR compatible without any consideration as to whether or not they “should” be. It’s a nifty idea, and a quaint little addition, but I wish all of the other apps were working, polished, and synchronized first before we start adding shiny new ones.
They hired a guy who made the VR experience as a hobby. Smart move to get someone like that on board and nice they rebranded his project to an official Plex VR app.

Are all those Plex bugs and annoyances also included in the VR app? Because without the experience wouldn’t be the same.
The guy is now probably working on the other apps as we speak. I would have done the same if someone created a whole app as a hobby project… Sounds like a very motivated future employee!
I wish people would develop Plex fixes “as a hobby.”
Here’s the long awaited feature nobody asked for and nobody wanted.
FANFARE!!!
@elan you should be ashamed of the development priorities of this company.
Actually, I’ve used my GearVR to watch movies on a flight and it was amazing - so much better than craning my neck to look at a laptop/tablet, and much more immersive.
I’m just pissed they released this for the Daydream that no one has instead of the GearVR that people actually own.

At least someone in the management must have these glasses
- that’s the only explanation.
I am blown away that VR was somehow a development priority. Like most here, why would I want to forgo my 4K HDR TV to watch on my phone strapped to my face… how is this even a thing?
I’ve ‘heard’ that VR porn is pretty awesome … not that I’d know about such things!!

@elan has his own priority: PlexAmp ![]()
VR aside, I’m kind of pissed that a long standing request for synced/tandem viewing is finally delivered…inside a gimmicky fad of an app, instead of as a proper feature across the board?
Like others I too wish that Plex actually fixed things and made meaningful additions to the core BEFORE they expand into a niche that is barely popular the be considered a nitche.
But Plex is isolated from the real world or at least in a real world in an alternate universe where the users are all exactly the same and have only desires for Plex to add more features without regard as to if they work correctly or not.
This whole last few years with Plex has made me tend to agree with this quote from Ambrose Bierce: “I Feel Like I’m Diagonally Parked in a Parallel Universe.”

Only true if you use the apparatus from “Brainstorm.” If that is next from Plex with a true neural interface for control then that might be a worthy enhancement. But I hate to think what it could become with Plex’s implementation and what side effects the inevitable “bugs” would have.

Quite right - porn and ‘bugs’ definitely don’t mix!! ![]()
just add another log to the already raging bonfire of useless crap that plex has devolved into
all you that hate this feature are probably not plex’s current target demo… dumb, out of work milenials that have no friends ( and likely no TV ) in their parents baseement … but are glued to their mobile device that their parents still pay for… so its all good.
cant wait to see how they dumb down the rest of the plex universe for this to work as they ‘opimize’ the transcoder for the 640 resolution of the cheap headgear…
by the by… love the new ‘collections’ whereby every singe movie in my library is now in a collection that consists of just one movie… completely dicking 8 years of carful taging and organization…
oh… and the latest change that screwed up commercial skipping that wasnt working too bad out of the gate but now screws up on a regular basis…
cant stand the winning around here…
waiting for my next banning from the board in 3…2…
Yes it is absolute unbelievable how they put the priorizations in Plex.

If this is true and they didn’t really divert that many resources to making this app then it’s not so bad. But of course now that it’s “official” it means they’re obligated to support it.
Of course, I’m in alignment with all of the rest of you that I wish Plex would
a) make a serious effort of fixing all of the many longstanding bugs,
b) not diverge out even further given how many disparate Plex apps there already are, and
c) actually give us paying users a real public facing bug tracker that isn’t a public forum so we can actually see what bugs are known and what the progress on fixing them is. Tons of other companies with big user bases do this – it’s a solved problem!
I hit multiple annoying Plex bugs on a daily basis now. The app has gone from a pleasure to use with a few hiccups now and then to something frustrating that I tolerate just because there isn’t a good alternative. As an experienced software developer, designer, and user, I can say that is a very bad place for your software to be. It means your development efforts have systemic problems that need to be sorted out and soon, because if you don’t fix it, eventually someone else will come along, do it better, steal all of your users, and put you out of business.

Is that anything like “virtual VD”? LOL
