Waking windows 10 PC from Sleep

Hi, I’m currently having an issue with Plex apps no longer waking my PC Plex server, it would wake my PC when ever I opened the Plex app on Apple TV or IPhone, just recently it has stop doing this which is very frustrating, not sure is it’s a recent Plex server update or a Window update.
Anyone else had this same issue??

Plex do not and it has never supported Wake on lan - maybe you’re doing wake on “pattern match” but it has nothing to do with Plex.

Hmm, ok, so not sure how is was working but yes there was a pattern match setting I had to change but the PC would only wake from sleep when moving the mouse or starting Plex Server. Seems the last update changed this from happening

Not possible…

Pattern match put simply just wakes the pc whenever there are traffic to the network card. Plex can’t wake up anything because its not running when the pc is in standby…

Ok, I’ll have to do some research on pattern matching then. It’s possible because it was happening, lol.

Yeah, pattern matching does work… It hovever has nothing to do with a Plex update…

I would try to wake the pc with another device on the local network to see if it is working. Accessing a network share on the same pc were you Plex server is from another device on the local network should wake the plex server pc - if it can’t neither can the plex app…

I would also try to see if it makes a difference to put the plex server local ip in your Plex app on you phone or Apple tv…

EDIT:

If you want to know why the Plex Server can’t wake up your pc look at the OSI model and see that Plex Server is working on the application level where pattern matching are a lower level…

Hmm, I’m not quite sure what you mean by this, OSI model

The OSI model shows that what you’re claiming can’t be. i.e: Some application (Plex Server) that works in the software layers (that aren’t running when the pc is in standby) should somehow have something to do with pattern maching (that are in the hardware layers and running when the pc is in standby)

To be clear: pattern matching is done solely on the NIC.

Hmm, we’ll k, so something must have changed with Windows it’s self then I guess

Sorry, I’m not that advanced in the whole WOL side or computer tec talk, i usually wing it by googling things and working it out. Getting frustrating as im running out of things to try, so anoying. I don’t use any other apps or devices that access the server pc so im lost as to how to access it to test WOL is working.

I’m not using pattern matching cause it would wake my pc all the time, because I have a lot of devices on my lan - that and the lack of control makes it rather useless imo…

But you would need to test if the client device are making the correct request to the correct local ip somehow… The only way I know how to do that is Wireshark…

If that is not possible for you I would think your best bet is to try different drivers for your NIC… BUT then I’m assuming that the Plex server pc is the problem…

It seems that way, yes. I’ve looked at wireshark, kinda over my head but yeah, dunno what the problem is. I can access my server remotely on my mobile network as long as the pc is on so it’s got access to the pc, it will just not wake the pc up any more, something somewhere has changed.
I can wake the PC localy by sending a WOL packet through a network app on my phone but that’s about it. Dunno, seems like I’ve tryed everything

Thanks for your input, after hrs of reading and following this thread…

I’m able to now wake my pic again via Plex opening on any device, not sure if something changed with the network adapter not being active when pc is asleep or firewall settings changed somewhere at some point but, it’s going again.
Cheers
