I have an old server created on a very old and slow computer running Linux. I recently ditched it, and started from scratch on a much faster Windows OS computer. I don’t have the old server with me anymore, but it is still online. (I pulled the media files out of the computer so nothing is playable).
My question is, If have them both opened in two separate windows on the web player (which I do), is there any possible way to copy and paste the thumbnails from my old server to my new one? Would save me the trouble of looking for each one on Google or photoshop them again, rather than having the ability of copy and pasting a thumbnail or link to thumbnail. I can do it for descriptions and directors and studios, but not sure how to grab the thumbnails.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Mind you that I am someone with very limited comprehension of servers, kinda learning as I go.
If your old Linux system is still running (even though you removed the media) you can in theory transfer the entire database and metadata to your Windows. This will work best for a new setup (as it overwrites everything you already did on the Windows environment).
You might also be able to drag pictures between browser windows. However that’s not such a good idea as you won’t necessarily transfer the original pictures but an “optimized” version for display in the browser (compare it to taking a photo of a photo or re-recording music from a self-recorded cassette).
And you also should consider using Local media assets. Naming your thumbnails with the same name as your video files will make your next migration transparent.
