Hi all, I tried transferring my server from my NAS (DS418play) to a laptop (windows 10) by following this guide https://support.plex.tv/articles/201370363-move-an-install-to-another-system/. I think I did most of it right because now I have a new server that is running on my laptop and it is reading the media content from my NAS, which is what I wanted.
However, in the new server on my laptop, it is not displaying the correct metadata I had assigned to the TV shows in my old server. Also it is not displaying the thumbnails I had chosen before, or the right descriptions (by this I mean that in my old server, I had edited the show’s summary and changed some of the titles of different episodes).
Is the a way for me to “transplant” those assignments and edits over to my new server? Thanks for any help in advance.
And it won’t cause that information(what you told plex to change) is stored in the Plex database.
It’s possible but mind numbing!! The issue is the location of all your custom artwork/posters would be in a different spot on your computer and paths would be completely different.
It would require a tremendous amount of work and likely lead to Trichotillomania.
On a side note… for future reference. While this doesn’t help with custom edits to file titles and summaries, you can save custom posters(including episode artwork) with the media itself. That way if you have to rebuild or move to a different server you can at least keep your artwork. https://support.plex.tv/articles/200220677-local-media-assets-movies/
So the solution would probably just to go in, and make all those changes again manually right? Just wanted to make sure there isn’t an easier way of doing this.
Yes, that’s about it. There really isn’t any export/import tool available for this kind of thing so you will have to do it all manual no matter how its done.
