I think it’s getting worse and ideally I want everyone on the same or similar client so I can optimize for that going forward. Last night I have iPhone, XBox, Roku Stick and Fire TV stick and they were all transcoding. If I were to force everyone to get a client what client works best remotely?
It’s hard to say. It would depend on why they are transcoding. If it is incompatible codecs, it might be easier for you to convert all your videos. If you are serving up HEVC video, only a few devices will support that. If your users are lowering the quality setting, a different device won’t help.
