I have a PLEX installation with diverse media types–photos, family videos, music and movies. The movies and “family videos” seem to be working fine when housed in a “Other Videos” library. However, I have having great difficulty with videos that are actually video “courses” with multiple individual segments. I tend to think of the overall course as an “album,” and the individual segments as “tracks” within that album. My need is to be able to easily advance from one segment to the next, ideally merely by clicking on the “advance arrow.”
Some time ago, someone on this forum recommended that I set up such courses not as normal videos or as movies, but in a “Shows” library. That way the course would be seen by PLEX as a “season” and the individual segments as “episodes.” So, I tried it and it seemed to work (or so I recall). Unfortunately, last week I went into several courses only to find a complete mess. The segments were a random selection of segments from many different courses, and it seemed that each separate course was using the very same random mix of segments. It also seemed as if my PLEX installation was limited to as few as 60 different segments in total, when some individual courses have more than 60 segments. It was a total mess, so I deleted that “Show” library, and set them up as a “Movie” library. They do appear on my TV PLEX player, but for some reason refuse to show up on my iPad PLEX player. The other problem is that even on the TV PLEX player they do not easily advance from one segment to the next. The “advance arrow” is greyed out, so at the end of a segment you have to manually exit to go out to the folder in order to manually select another track. This is not convenient.
I am looking for guidance on how best to set up “courses”. Should I go back to the “Shows” library, which did allow easy advancement to the subsequent segment, or should I do something different?
Please advise. Thank you.
