What was the last stable version of Plex you remember?

I would have to say the last stable version i remember was 1.3.4.x

To be honest 1.4.x to 1.5.x have been riddled with issue after issue. But maybe I am wrong, what do you think was the last best version so far?

depends with what are you using on PC all versions work fine, i use most on a Samsung TV 2013 model Plex player 2.007 and PMS 1.4.4 and below work fine , starting with PMS 1.5.x i get audio error when trailers are on , so if i disable trailers is fine, so at the moment i stay with 1.4.4 (Orca says that will be a fix on next Samsung TV player update 2.008)

as @Seven_ mentioned, it depends on your situation.
I can’t remember a version that I would say had a show stopper issue that affected my usage

1.4.x through 1.5.2 were show stoppers for me since any remote client was limited to roughly 2Mb unless you wanted tons of buffering (even with direct play).

To answer the question I would say 1.3.4 was the most solid recent version, but I’m running 1.5.4 at present which is stable but has a few quirks related to streaming brain when transcoding.

The 1.4x & 1.5x versions have some substantial under cover changes (eg audio codec, streaming brain support) and it’s not unusual in Plex land to take a few minor releases to iron out things not caught by QA.

Of course as already mentioned if one of the “bugs” was a show stopper for you then those versions won’t be something you want to run (like for me the 1.4 to 1.5.2 versions). If you happen to live in DTS land the you won’t be a fan of any 1.5 version except the latest 1.5.4 version if needing transcoding.

On the flip side if you are upload bandwidth limited you might love the 1.5 series since it give you more control.

It really all depends on your media and how you use Plex,
Carlo

I can’t remember a version that really caused me issues…
Really depends on your server hardware i guess.

The latest stable version of the server for me is:
Version 1.5.4.3596
Absolutely stable and working great for all my media.

I believe that many/most problems people have are due to local issues like running the server on underpowered hardware or running the server on a computer that is used for too many other tasks or other local issues. My server works flawlessly except for when I do something stupid like last might where I tried to install the latest server and did not notice that Windows had a pending update and I thought the update had stalled so I manually interrupted it causing a failed/partial instillation of both Windows and Plex.

Even with that all it took to fix the problem I caused was to allow Windows to fix its own install and then rerunning Plex’s installer manually and choosing the “repair” option. Once those finished my stupid mistake was fixed and everything was again fine.

It is my experience that even the beta versions (Plex Pass ones) are very stable and if you stick with the regular releases then there is almost never a problem that is not relate to a local issue or, like the one I had, user stupidity.

No this is perfect, i am looking for everyone’s opinion on this. I absolutely do not think 14.x to 15.x are show stoppers by any means and I know Plex will correct the issues.

I run Plex client on just about every platform they offer, roku, iOS, and Android being the most popular with my family. And I can tell you the servers are not the issue… running dual xeon servers with plenty of ram and ssd’s.

I guess i look at it as I want the easiest from a server management perspective to work with and Plex has absolutely lived up to that.

But recently I feel like maybe all the different file formats and containers and transcoding… maybe we ask to much to have the all in one video solution Plex is so great at.

1.3.4.x seemed flawless to me no matter the format, it just worked. And maybe i am missing something with 1.5.x that i dont understand about Plex.

I’ve had no issues but I only use it for music and photos, on a PC, Tablet, iPad, Roku, and iPhones.

I did find streaming over the Internet a little iffy, especially when in Europe, but I chalk that up to a combination of my server, my internet connection in the US, and the remote internet connection in Spain.

Since joining Plex Pass and able to sync content onto a device, playing music has been very smooth with cached content on my mobile devices.
