[What's the difference?] Plex vs Plex Home Theatre

Hello Plex forum,

I am new to using Plex and through reading through various forums I can see that Plex Home Theatre was recently abandoned but it has been picked up and forked as OpenPHT.

My question is what’s the difference between Plex and Plex Home Theatre?

Is there something I am not understanding?

Plex is a client/server system. The Plex server runs on a computer of some kind and gives access to stored media to clients of which Plex Home Theater and OpenPHT are just a couple.

Thanks @Elijah_Baley, I’ve been reading in to this and understand it much better now.

I am now trying to find a client that will allow me to watch videos on OSMC/Kodi and I have found most people either recommend PleXBMC or PlexKodiConnect.

I was hoping you might be able to help me understand the difference between PlexKodiConnect and PlexBMC.

I do not use either of those. 90%+ of my Plex viewing is done on my Rokus and moso of the rest is on a Raspberry PI using Plex Media Player. I have tried most os the players on various computers and have not found one that does not seem clumsy to me. I find they simply offer no advantage over the simple and easy to use interface of the Roku. I am a firm believer in the KISS principal.

As a disclaimer: I do not use Plex for music and I do not use much of the fancy features like extras and I do not use sharing at all. My use of Plex is simply for watching media both TV shows and movies.
