Whats the use case for a guest account

I’m guessing it’s just so if you have baby sitters over for example that they don’t mess with your watched status (or need to know your pin) - or is there something I’m missing?

I’m also guessing I can’t use it because without a pin my kids could see all the adult libraries

If you’ve got libraries you don’t want the guest account to see just don’t make those libraries available for the guest account. Or set restrictions on the guest account to not show adult rated content.

I suppose what I wonder is if the guest account does anything different from a normal account with no pin

I’m not sure what you mean.

Are you referring to specifically a Plex Home guest account? If so you can just set what libraries and restrictions you want to give it, if any. It isn’t different to any other Plex Home account.

Just click the pencil icon and set the shared libraries you want it to be able to access.

Well, my question is WHY have this Guest Account? There a reason for it? I think the statement was what is the difference of (example) setting up User1 and giving no PIN vs setting up Guest User?

Any ideas?

There is nothing different between the Guest user and any other Managed user except that with the guest account, you have the ability to turn it on/off with a click. It remembers the sharing you set for it so you do not need to go through the routine of setting up a user and setting permissions each time you want this account enabled.

Cool! Thanks for the clarity.

Sorry to resurrect an older thread, but it is along the same topic.

I have a guest room that I have a micro PC running plex on a tv. Perfect application for a guest account. My guests will change often.
My first guest went fantastically. But the second one had a bunch of “on-deck” media, and a lot of watched content. I assumed that the guest account would reset when disabled/re-enabled. Not so. It remembers the watched content.

How can I reset the guest user to zero so the new guests can start fresh?

@JakeReindl , did you ever figure out how to easily reset the guest user? I have the exact same use case.

Sort of. Disabling and then re-enabling the guest user will reset the watched data.

I would like to put a pass code on my guest account. How do I do that or is it even possible?

Sorry, not possible.

what are the steps for my son to access his guest from is home.
i know he has to download plex, then what next…how does he access or sign
i set him up as guest… now does he access it from his end.

Any help? Please read above.

The guest account is just another managed user do it accesses your server the same way other managed users do. You need to sign into the app using a non managed user, then you can switch to the guest account.

Any help with my question? Please.

See my comment above. That was directed towards to.

How can I switch from non managed user to guest?

I don’t understand your question. If you’ve set up the guest user, you can switch to it from any other user.
