There's a new "app" on my ATV2 called "/private/var/mobile/Library/Application\ Support/Front\ Row/Merchants/movie-trailers-v2/preferences.plist" So yeah they completely remade the trailers.
There's a thread here somewhere claiming to get plexc going with the wsj app, is this a possible avenue?
You mean this thread: http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/topic/74524-use-wall-street-journal-app-instead-of-trailers/ ?
I'll test this right away.
WSJ started using the secure https about two weeks ago, and CrunchyRoll before that. Neither option works right now.

Pretty sure that got shutdown recently too :(
Explain how, please.
Thx
And how would you install this on an ATV that was not jailbroken? I detect a troll.
You can add certs with Apple Configurator. I've used the process outlined here to add enterprise wireless connections (which require certificates). I don't think he's trolling.

Yeah, they are doing same thing as new Trailers, the frontpage comes over HTTPS but all the content in them come from HTTP source.

Didn't think of that myself. It's too early in the morning here in Finland for me to bother to inject selfsigned cert into my rooted ATV2. But if this works I could check continue when I wake up on looking what Apple is doing with this new Trailers App and if we can replace it again.

I will be very happy if he is not.

I'm not. Only holdup now is that it appears the Python BaseHTTPServer has no easy mechanism to listen on multiple ports? For testing I ran two separate instances but that's an ugly solution.

Please check this out:
It basicly starts two sockets with same handler
What kind of certificate did you create?

Haha, damn, wish I had reloaded sooner. I just came to this exact solution. I'm modifying the config quickly to support passing a path to the cert+key file and then I'll put up a fork on Github.
Got it working again. I'll write up the steps shortly. You'll need to install a self-signed cert onto the Apple TV and also use a patched version of PlexConnect that listens on both 443 (serving the certificate+key pair you generate) and also port 80. At that point it works just fine.
That was fun :)
Unless that works on a non jailbroken ATV then it's all well and good, otherwise there's not much point for the ATV 3.
EDIT* Ignore me, I didn't reload fast enough. I love this community :)
I work in IT, but I have a had time understanding the need to serve it via HTTPS to begin with and then deliver the rest over HTTP, assuming we can get this version working is there way to block the updates from apple, can we block via domain even?
Is there gonna be a step by step like there is now by the connect team on this alleged fix?

If the fix works then it can be added into the main branch and you won't have to do anything else but update your version and add the cert.
Speaking of which, configurator does not work on Windows or Linux, that adds a little bit of fun to the matter.

That sounds great.
*Crossing my fingers*
I think one of the major concerns here has to be what I believe Planet or Baa said earlier which is that if these kind of impactful updates can be made without actually triggering an update then the breaking of any workaround solely lies in the hands of Apple. Therefore not only do we need a solution to the listening portion of the communication but also in the blocking of app 'updates' rather than just FW based.
Here are the instructions for now: http://langui.sh/2013/08/27/appletv-ssl-plexconnect/
I'm going to spend some time getting my fork ready for a pull request, but this should work for anybody with access to a Mac and a microUSB cable.
