Plex lab needs to upgrade the media server or media player to support 4k uhd hdr 10 bits x265 in mkv format, 1080p hd is old technology. Kodi is making you guys looks bad.
I noticed this is your first post, so the first thing I’d like to do is say WELCOME to the forums!
Not sure why you mention Plex Labs but I don’t think this would have anything to do with the “Lab”. https://www.plex.tv/plex-labs/ The “Lab” is usually 3rd party and/or “passion projects” while the 4K issue you mention would be either server or client related (or both) and would be a core service or app if you will.
It would have been helpful if you gave an example of what’s not working for and we could have taken it from there so please do respond back with an example of something specific not working for you.
Plex DOES support 4K UHD/10 bit in H.265 and even in H.264 formats. It also supports 10 bit at 1080 as well which was popular on anime way before we got 4K resolutions.
Plex has apps on some devices with built in support for either H.265 and 4K such as the latest generations of the Roku boxes, the AppleTV or some Android devices like the super popular ShieldTV or even your mobile phone. PMP (Plex Media Player) which runs on a PC or Mac can also play 4K HDR H.265 files as well. Then there is also Plex for Kodi which as the name suggests is Plex running inside Kodi and all it’s goodness. The key for what I just mentioned is having the files DIRECT PLAY so the device does the decoding and hand-off to the TV.
If Plex has to transcode the file due to subtitles, non supported audio or a bitrate limitation then you will presently lose the HDR during the transcode. I say presently because this is something Plex is adding or working on.
So with that basic intro covered, why don’t you give us some additional information on what isn’t working correctly for you and some of us can help you out as many of us enjoy 4K media via Plex on our systems.

Plex player does not play well in my nvidia shield hdr on my 4k hdr tv or my pc ,the quality looks horrible!!! Also it won’t play original bitrate after setting the player to original. It definitely needs vast improvement and take your time with it 4k hdr x265 10 bits.
There are issues the devs are working on in this regard.
Are the files you are having trouble with DIRECT PLAY or are they transcoding?

Strange… I have no issues with HEVC HDR content on my Shield through the Plex app…

I Play 4K HDR files all the time on my shield without issue, the only issues I may run into are usually data streaming limitations because the files are so large and it’s over wifi. So there maybe something wrong with your setup if it’s not working well.
I have the feeling his files are being transcoded for some reason and the transcoding is causing him issues?!?!?
HDR works with PLEX on the Shield but not on PMP on Windows. PMP is not passing the HDR to the TV.
I reset it/updated plex , all sorted and working properly imo. Thank you for all your helps and suggestions.
I have a direct play issue, plex is telling me the connection from the server isn’t fast enough. I’m using cat 6 from server to gigabit switch and to the tv. I have a 2017 sony that can decode anything but x265 65 gig file plays choppy.
