When will Plex Web support HEVC direct play?

Hi all,

I just was wondering when plex web for Chrome, etc. would support HEVC direct play.
I’m trying to watch shows while I work on my server, but the web client always buffers because it is transcoding HEVC to H.264.

Note: I so work on my server so I watch videos through localhost.

Have you tried it in edge? Its supposedy supported already

I have not tried it in edge, but I guess I will. Though to me that seems like a huge inconvenience as I use chrome for everything.

Plexweb runs in your browser.
Browsers are severely limited with what they can play.
Plexweb is primarily designed as your Server Management App, not your Primary Media Player App.
If you use Plex Media Player you may get better results as it IS designed to be a powerful Media Player App:
Top of the Forum/Downloads/Get an App

To formulate it more succinctly: HEVC direct playback may only work after the major browsers have begun to support this codec.

Here for same.

Realize this is an old post, BUT… Plex web in Edge DOES play HEVC video natively.
