Where do I contribute/edit the new tv series meta data agent?

Server Version#:NA
Player Version#:NA

I use to be able to create and edit meta data in thetvdb.com. but it seems it no longer looks there for its meta data. Where do I go now?

You can try tmdb. The new agent/scanner is a consolidation from multiple sources but plex use tmdb as a starting point so you should start there.

Well, turns out they don’t allow standup shows to be added as a tv series.
Damn. Don’t want to have the same discussion over and over again trying to change the rules.

You won’t change any opinions over there, they stick and enforce their bible religiously. You just have to respect their rules.

I made thetvdb change the rules and those admins are cult leaders when it comes to the rules.

Good luck over at tmdb influencing them. I’ve learned to just roll with their rules.

To be honest I’m way more happy with how tmdb do things in comparison to tvdb. Pretty much completely switched to tmdb naming for everything now bar one or two shows (like firefly).

Thanks. I have no trouble following rules, except when they make no sense.
The tvdb mediators and admins truly think they are gods and are very rude to the community who actually help them to create the content.
I wish I could force plex to keep looking in thetvdb since the content I added is there. but I cant select it anymore.
Since, for now, I cant add it all the tmdb i’m kinda stuck.

Could I have an example of a show you have a problem with as I’m now curious.

You can select the order and use tvdb at the library level. Which is what I do and it works well.

As the Plex Media Server admin, I open up Plex and go into
Settings > Libraries > Mouse over my TV Shows library > Click Edit Library > Advanced > Episode Ordering > The TVDB

Is that what you wanted?

About the tvdb forum guys, just reading two days of the chaos that is their forums would drive anyone to be very cut throat. Imagine spending week after week reading that stuff. It’s brutal. I have deep respect for anyone that enjoys that enough to administer it.

Good job getting them to change something.

When your goal is to catalog a “series” of shows, anything one-off like a Dana Carvey special just doesn’t make sense. No it’s not a “movie” per se, but it’s fundamentally not a series. I had to accept that logic when trying to figure out matching some esoteric documentaries.

You CANNOT force plex to use tvdb metadata. You can only force plex to use tvdb episode ordering which is that setting above. Many folks fail to understand this. The metadata will not change, only the ordering of the episodes themselves.

The new modern plex agent/agent uses a consolidated metadata approach. There is (currently) no way to configure it to get metadata from one specific provider or another (tvdb over tmdb).

Most (I’d estimate 90+%) of the metadata plex uses comes from tmdb, which is why if you want to influence what metadata plex has you need to start there.

Well the admins are not very accommodating.
