Where is Fanart/Art stored (For Music) ?

Some of my music didn’t download art automatically…I have local art but I don’t know where art is stored with Plex to move them.

I have set some art in normal Plex Web UI which shows in Album view mode, but doesn’t show in Artist view mode for some reason. Trying to clean up my art and also replace some that I don’t like with other.

Can’t seem to find it though.

You can add artist photos, artist-fanart, album cover and album-fanart besides your music files.
Then you only need the ‘Local Media Assets’ agent to be active.

This however requires that your music files are organised in a folder structure like this:

Music /
   Albumartistname /
      artist-poster.jpg <--- a photo of the artist
      artist-background.jpg <--- a background/wallpaper particular to the artist
      Albumartistname - Albumtitle /
         cover.jpg <--- album cover
background.jpg <--- album background/wallpaper [if not present, inherited from the 'albumartist' level]
         1. Trackartist - Tracktitle.mp3
         1. Trackartist - Tracktitle.txt
         2. Trackartist - Tracktitle.mp3
         2. Trackartist - Tracktitle.lrc
         ...

The graphic files can be in jpg, png, or tbn format. For all filenames there are a few alternative names which can also be used.

The txt files can contain the song lyrics in plain text format.
The lrc files can contain the ‘timed’ song lyrics.

After you added the files with the graphics, refresh the artist / the album. Then edit them and pick your own graphics from the choices presented.

Thank you so much, Much appreciated

You also showed me where my problem was. I didn’t realize there was a different background for ARTIST and ALBUMARTIST. Therefore in Album list mode I was picking a background but then when I switched to Artist mode there weren’t backgrounds for some of them.

Makes sense now, would have to set a Background in each mode.

Thank you.

Didn’t mean to mark my own post as the answer…my bad.

Make that ARTIST and ALBUM.
If you have set a background already for the Artist, then there is no need to set one for the Album. Since Artist backgrounds will be ‘inherited’ by their Albums.

Gotcha thanks.

And am I correct in that when changing settings or images manually (not putting them in directory) doing that via the normal WebUI is the proper method?

OpenPHT reads settings from the web right? Mind you I am new to all this so trying to learn how it works.

All administration is done in Plex Web.

PHT is just a Plex client. No settings can be made there which would affect the server (except maybe changing an item’s watched/unwatched state ).

If you haven’t already seen it, this is highly recommended:

Thank you for confirmation, I will also read the quick start guide

One other question, I embedded the Album cover art into my MP3/FLAC files and they seemed to automatically show in Plex when I added my music…did they use those embedded arts or were they downloaded by Plex?

If your Plex server is configured to use embedded tags, and Local Assets agent is top of the list, then Plex prefers embedded images first, then local files (album.jpg), then online.

I gave up on this…I can’t get it to read my local art no matter what I do…I have to edit each one manually, then pick the files I want.

I can get a default cover and background if I place those in the folders like you said above. But my hope was to use multiples like background-1.jpg background-2.jpg based on the wiki and I though it would load those in…but it doesn’t.

I get a list of files downloaded online when I go into the edit screen…

I dunno…very frustrating…it seems to handle images very poorly compared to Kodi.

Maybe the wiki is outdated on the naming/folder structure for images…not sure…
