Local Artwork for Music Libraries

Is there a way to use local artwork (assets) for music artists and backgrounds ?

I know how to do this for albums as I can embedded the art or use cover.jpg but cannot see a way to do it for the artist itself or their background. I don’t want plex deciding what this is and I’d rather have it set in my library files (if possible).

Click the Pencil and chose Poster, background?

Yes, I know you can do that but that’s not what I’l asking nor what I want.

I want to know if there is something similar to posters, artwork, season etc… that we have for TV and movie libraries, basically this stuff → Local Media Assets - TV Shows | Plex Support but for music artists and their backgrounds.

Music / <-- folder which is added to the music library
|--Albumartistname /
   | artist-poster.jpg <--- a photo of the artist
   | artist-background.jpg <--- a background/wallpaper particular to the artist
   |--Albumtitle /
         cover.jpg <--- album cover
background.jpg <--- album background/wallpaper [if not present, inherited from the 'albumartist' level]
         1. Trackartist - Tracktitle.mp3
         1. Trackartist - Tracktitle.txt
         2. Trackartist - Tracktitle.mp3
         2. Trackartist - Tracktitle.lrc
         ...

Thank you, exactly what I was looking for.

I’m playing around with adding my music library to plex for the the first time. Coming from strawberry https://www.strawberrymusicplayer.org so I might have some knob followup questions but will open in a separate thread if I do to keep it clean.

In the properties of the music library, on the Advanced tab
you might want to set “Album Art” to “Local Files Only”
(if you only want your local cover art to be used).
