Availability of commercial skip has persuaded me to give Plex a try to finally replace WMC in my home. I have a new Shield for playback and an older Synology NAS (DS1512+, DSM 6.2.2) where I currently store recordings. I don’t need to do any transcoding - just want to test the DVR functionality. If this works I will upgrade to a DS1019+.
My NAS is listed in the compatibility list (with only very limited transcoding) but when I go to download the server I don’t see a build for it (X12 series - Intel Atom D2700). I tried the X10 series but it errors during install: “not supported on the platform of DiskStation or is incompatible with the current DSM version.”
Any suggestions? I’m fine to upgrade my NAS but just want to test out Plex first. I guess I could install the server on the Shield and use the NAS for storage only for now?
