Whole home audio recommendations

I’m looking for some recommendations for a whole home audio set up if anyone has any advice.

My set up is 3 x AVRs running 8 music zones, all hardwired. My Plex server is on a Mac Mini and I run Home Assistant and Music Assistant (linked to Plex) in docker on my nas. This allows a reasonable single user interface to play music and control everything across my house via airplay.

However, I’m missing all the epic Plexamp features, automated playlists, sweet fades etc, because Music Assistant linked to Plex is only useful for playing back playlists, albums etc

Is anyone aware of a way to add endpoints to my avrs so I can cast directly from Plexamp to my avrs with the ability to play the same or different music across zones? I thought about buying 3 x RPis but that won’t allow me to sync playback like I can with airplay.

I feel like I’m missing something super obvious as surely many people have similar set ups. Any suggestions or input would be much appreciated.

If @elan ever makes good on rolling out the mesh to us headless plexampers, you’ll be wanting those RPis.

Thanks for the response.

So there is currently no way of grouping ending points? Wow ok. Plexamp is such a great music interface but the transport layer is severely limiting for my use cse.

Just searched for ‘mesh’ and I see @elan mentioned it was coming early 2024. Any update on an eta? Please save me from Room :joy:

Actually i think that there is a way, but i believe that way is stuck in the limbo of an invite-only beta.

Interesting. I’d happily get those RPis and be a tester if an invite was to show up. Thanks for your input but sounds like it’s a case of wait or Roon for now. Cheers

mesh is still THE limiting factor for using plexamp as a home solution.

have been waiting for years and have given up

LMS still does the trick

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried LMS but Music Assistant was the better option for me.

I had assumed Plex would support whole home transport natively, meaning I could get all the Plexamp features when playing music around my house. However it looks like the transport layer in Plex has much room for improvement. Eg grouping endpoints

thanks for the tip I hadn’t seen music assistant

Have been running LMS since they released the squeezebox touch.

If you look at Music Assistant then I’d highly recommend Home Assistant too. I have a dashboard that controls all the media in my house from one screen and you can automate almost any way you want - be warned though - it’s addictive.

Only thing I’m missing is the Plexamp fades, stations and mixes, hence my post here.

plexamp does a very nice job on the smart mixes.

this is why I would love it for multi room, whole house. as would my wife especially because she is often incapable or unwilling to choose the music herself, just put something good on!

I was optimistic upon the headless release this was coming. how long has that been
