I have reported this issues multiple times. Current scene people and old Tv shows all using the avi format. Current Android TV or mobile will play the shows currently and about 5 minutes start to fast forward or stop with a black screen. When i ask about the fix or support ,Response given is we should all encode to MKV or MP4 .
So to be clear Plex will no longer even attempt to support AVI files?
Plex does support/play AVI files. Infact, I’ve never had a problem with plex playing an AVI file aside from a corrupt one and even then, plex does a good job trying to play that as well.
Plex supports AVI files - in that Plex will transcode anything your client doesn’t support.
As AVI support rides off into the sunset for everything that’s playing it - I’d start making plans to start downloading something else.
Run it through MKVToolNix to remux it to an MKV. This will normally take a few seconds to a few minutes depending on your system.
Now play the resulting file to see if there is any difference, and if not, then indeed it is likely a corrupt file.
NOTE: This will not re-encode the file, it will simply remux it, taking the content of the AVI container and placing it in the new MKV container.
… and that won’t work for 70% of AVIs when the streams within are still unsupported.
Natively that is.
Yes…
Plex will deliver it unmolested - if it can.
