Why did my play count reset after around 128 plays?

I don’t remember how many plays I had exactly, but around a year ago I had my play count reset on a movie from around 128 to 0. I was wondering if there was a rollover bug. Has anyone else seen this happen?

There shouldn’t be a limit. I was able to get a movie up to 129.

Edit - Technically there is a limit. That field is an integer in the SQLite database which has a limit of 2^64. You’re not going to realistically hit that.

The play counts are based on the guid of the movie. The guid is based on the agent used to match it. If that matching changed, then the playcount won’t match. Have you done anything to change how that movie was matched?

I don’t think I did anything to change how the movie matched. That is good to know going forward though.

Mine was The Polar Express. My kids love that movie.

What the … how did you know? I haven’t actually watched it that much. Just bumped the play count to check if there was a limit. And yes, I was able to find the limit.

When you attempt to watch it for the 2^31 time, does Plex just say no? “C’mon, man, go outside!”

That is a great idea.

That would be roughly 555665.47 years of watching The Matrix. It is a good movie, but I don’t like it THAT much!
