There’s been a bunch of regression in 1.5 that has me seriously confused/concerned, but the one I’m most concerned about right now is Search. I’ve attempted to email the developer about it but I’ve yet to get a response.
First, the search screen itself. This is a symptom of a larger problem regarding shoving features in users faces when they don’t need them. I have one server and I do not use channels for content (they are admin only), and I suspect I am not alone in this. But every new beta build shoves more of the channels and server features in my face, with no option to turn them off.
If I only have one server set up, don’t give me the option to pick what servers I want to search. If I’m not using channels for content don’t present the channel search opinion.
Second, and this is the most important because it essentially breaks search. You can no longer search for actor/director profiles. Instead when you type an actor’s name you are presented with a list of the TV episodes and movies they are in in two rows (one TV and one Movies), and both rows like every other row that appears in Plex that isn’t on the main screen… it is capped at 10 items.
You no longer get to see the actor/director profile circles so if you have a actor/director that is in more than 10 movies or episodes, you can’t see all the results. This is infuriating for people with large libraries.
There’s a hacky why around this for actors. Search for actor, select movie, scroll down to actor circles in the movie info screen, open actor profile. The actor profile screens let you see all items. However, this can’t be done with directors since there are no “director circles” on the movie info screens and the More From Director row on that screen is capped at, you guessed it, 10 items.
So now the only way to see a director profile screen to let’s say see all my Spielberg films, I have to do this:
Movie section > More… > By Director > then scroll through hundreds of names to get to Steven Spielberg. This is nuts.
Search wasn’t broken before 1.5. When you search you should be presented with show/episode/movie items that fit the search query, but if you’re searching for a person you HAVE TO be able to get the people circles as a search result. Which was how search worked previously. For someone with a large library who have family members who like to browse actor/director profiles this is a inexplicable regression.
Please fix this!
