I’ve also asked this in the Plex Player section, not sure where it belongs.
I have PMS 1.12.0.4829 on CentOS 7 with Live TV and DVR.
Nvidia Shield with Plex 6.14.1.3753 for playback.
The stream is ATSC MPEG-2, some 720p some 1080i, standard US OTA broadcast.
All settings on the Shield are Maximum, Passthrough, and Play Original, etc.
Every time I tune a channel the server transcodes. If during playback I reduce the stream to a transcoded value and back to Play Original then the server stops transcoding. But then if I change to a different channel/program it begins to transcode again.
Any ideas?
when it is transcoding, what does it show the stream quality to be? Do you use the “automatic” quality based on connection speed?
So I enabled the overlay (should have been the first thing, right?) and it was transcoding both video and audio with the reason for doing so as AC-3 audio not supported by device. Hmmm???
I do use automatic quality for connection and changing that had no effect. The stream quality (resolution?) is the same as the source. Changing the quality during playback alters it from transcoding both to direct video and converting audio. Same reason, AC-3 not supported.
Then it occurred to me that I had recently moved the Shield from a different TV but only tweaked the CEC and IR remote settings. It did not spend enough time connected to the other TV for me to notice what it did during Live TV playback. I stepped through the Shield Display and Audio setup picking “recommended” and Auto for most things. Then rebooted the Shield and now Live TV direct plays everything as expected. Go figure…
Yeah, I guess I answered my own question. Thanks for the assist.
