Why does plex direct play 720p but transcode 1080p down to 720p

The settings are all default on the xbox one app.

I use plexwatch and i’ve been through every xbox item in the list and they all transcode for 1080p but direct play 720p

Is this a limitation of plex on xbox?

What is your xbone resolution set to?

Check Your settings, it needs to be set to original for it to NOT transcode. Like this…

Also, you can check on the webpage for your server under “Status” → “Now Playing” to see what is being transcoded.. here I am transcoding both Audio and Video (because xbox does not support 4K Video or DTS)
