Why is PLEX so heavily dependant on the internet now?

I just had a very long internet outage, which should be no problem since I have all my media locally in PLEX, and already whitelisted my whole network to use it without authentication (I learned that lesson the hard way a long time ago)

But using the Web interface is almost impossible, EVERY. SINGLE. PAGE takes around 60 seconds to load while it says “Resolving Host plex.tv” at the bottom, I guess when it times out it loads the local page. And I am using the local address, via server name (Not plex.tv)

Using PMP its not as bad, however the cast images don’t load after 60 seconds either, and if I click on a movie, and press back it just errors out. I need to close the app and re-open it

Can PLEX just get the hell out of my business and let me watch my media without having this stupid 24/7 connection to PLEX?

I am getting really sick and tired of PLEX constantly screwing up the experience by pretty much requiring an internet connection

I know for the fact I am not the only one with this frustration, it seems every few days there is a major problem with the authentication which ends up locking everyone out of their own media

If I could go back, I would never have purchased my Plex Pass knowing that this is the direction the software is heading.

a possible quick fix for now would be setting something up to answer the dns lookup as “offline” so it doesn’t hang until timeouts… I know horrible solution…but plex is doing a lot of ■■■■ recently :frowning:

It’s the cloud man, it’s the cloud…

But more seriously, every company and two bit operation is desperate to lock you into their ecosystem and plex is not outside that group. It’s one of the reasons I’m looking at emby right now even as a lifetime plex pass payee.

I’ve been testing Emby for about 2 or 3 weeks and I’ve already deleted Plex off my firetv and haven’t used it on my computer for over a week. Emby can easily replace Plex.
