I linked Plex to MyCloudHome. It seems ok but then, after 2 days, the video thumbnails still not appear in most of them. Why? Acitivity icon on upper right is still spinning! How long does it take to be able to play these files? (Yes, I have a lot). Videos, photos, music… they all Iive in my NAS.
Does upgrade to premiere help in any of these?
Only if it comes with unlimited cash reserves - yours - so you can buy a bigger/faster/stronger/6 Million Dollar box.
Preview Thumbs generally don’t take that long - unless you got a million of 'em.
What does take a long time and much resources is Skip Intro analysis. If that’s on - kick back - read a magazine - watch Gone With the Wind a few hundred times or memorize War and Peace… that’ll take a while.
In either case it takes as long as it takes.
Nothing you do will make it any faster - unless you disable whatever it is causing all the fuss.
Let it work a few hours a night and know that one day it’ll be over.
It has been 2 days and my thumbnails of photos, videos and songs are still generating!? Seriously disappointed with Plex so far. I think I am going back to plugging an external SSD to my TV box.
Well, check to make sure the ‘video transcoder’ isn’t disabled at:
Server/Settings/Transcoder (oddly enough).
Without that - this thing just can’t be done at all.
My guess is the photos and songs are the slow parts. You can have 10s of thousands of these, which will take time. Although I’m not sure how you managed to do all of them at once. You typically create 1 library at a time.
It could also be you have the option enabled to generate preview thumbnails (BIFs). This has been sped up greatly recently but still takes time depending on how many files you have.
this also, is not the most powerful tool in the shed.
you may just want to disable all thumbnail/video generation until plex can ingest and get metadata for your content.
later you can re-enable the thumbs and/or video previews and just let it work on its own time.
the time it takes is entirely dependent on your hardware and the amount of content it has to process.
don’t blame plex for you bringing a spoon to a mixing bowl of cookie dough and still expecting it be done in 30 seconds (or 30 days).
