Why is there a "NEWS" Library on my Plex Android App now?

Don’t worry, all those Kenny Rogers channels will get fixed in an upcoming update after the fall out. You’ll only be stuck with Kenny for a month or two. LOL

Sometimes you need to know when to hold 'em, when to fold 'em, know when to walk away, know when to run!

Sorry, couldn’t resist,
Carlo

Sometimes you have to know when to Hold 'Em and when to Fold 'Em, no when to walk away, know when to run.

I have used both Plex and Emby for about a year. I bought a lifetime subscription for both. I loved Plex, it was my first choice but after Plex was slow to get live tv up and running I started using Emby more and now it’s my go to Media server. The UIs are a totally subject call but I like Emby now that I have used it more. I have been squawking about Plex choices of priorities and feature adds and slowness to turn them out and total lack of tech support. Hands down Emby has better support. Plex has made some questionable moves and I decided to move on.

Sorry, but your analogy would have to acknowledge Plex is the company that originally made its name manufacturing SUV (cord cutter, home theater, DIY) for those that couldn’t find alternatives and specifically didnt want to have the big brother online always mothership data harvesting.

Now, Plex trying to modify and market their SUV (cord cutter, home theater, DIY) as a compact economy car (Push Content, Need to be Online, Data Harvesting), which is an entirely opposite use case, user base, and to be honest, platform. I see daily posts from users that want to cancel their sub because they thought Plex had a bunch of free movies and content.

So both approaches are valid, but it would have made more sense to try to build whatever they wanted to do next, and then integrate Plex with that once it was fully baked. Basically, the Plex user base was used to beta test their platform and provide a honeypot of data analytics for investors. And after all that, those users (SUV) now learn that their use case is no longer supported. Thanks.

So, its really not at all like an SUV, which someone can own and drive while they also own and drive a car. You either get what Plex gives you, or you have to find an alternative.

In other words, DON"T SELL LIFETIME SUBS IF YOU DON’T EVEN HAVE A ROADMAP TO SHARE ON WHERE YOU ARE GOING AND YOU DONT WANT SUPPORT THOSE USE CASES FOR A “LIFETIME”…or even for a month!

and was done after you bought the vehical.

I do want to point out a fine point… PMS is not sold, we did not pay for it, it is free. Plex Pass enables options for us (some we want, some we don’t care about).

And if you all want to counter with the argument that the mobile apps are free for Plex Pass members… anyone who would pay $120 for a lifetime PP vs. $5 for an app… well, you figure it out.

The problem is not the price for the lifetime PP … it’s the time and effort that users did put into their setups.

Me personally I bought a hell of a lot of equipment for my Plex ecosystem over the years, spent lot’s of time automating and scripting most of the repeating tasks and also spend a lot of time builing up my media library. So … there’s time, money and lot’s of devotion in there.

That’s the reason a lot of hardcore users are pissed.

Yes, and really there is no reason that both audiences couldn’t have been served, other than sheer, unmitigated ignorance. Its a false dichotomy that this had to happen, and its also a fallacy that not charging for this root canal of a roadmap means its ok. That’s what so hard to watch, but no doubt - the ship has sailed.

Well they’re probably coming with another amazing new ad supported idea like a translation service, online maps, something to do with an a.i. In any form or virtual /augmented Reality after the news hype wears off.

Does Emby have this “feature”?

No. It also doesn’t need an internet connection.
